The Weekend

We decided that we would have a pretty relaxing weekend, and after getting up fairly late on saturday morning for a change we got ourselves organised and headed to the block. Our plan was to mark out where the windmill was going to go and start the process of putting it up.
Once getting to the block and having a few discussions about where and how it was going to get there we came to the conclusion that we needed to build a bridge. The windmill is going to be situated on the other side of the dam, but to get over there you need to cross the newly made channel around the dam. Jamahl had great visions that we would be able to get the car, put it into 4wd and cross it. The problem was that we have fairly bald tyres on the back of the car at present and also the ground is fairly soft and I could see that we would get to a certain point and sink.
We are going to now build a bridge out of huge logs for the base and we will get these from the local saw mill, and the top ramp will be made of sleepers that we will get aswell. We have to make it wide enough so that when we get our tractor we can drive across it and not fall off the sides. We are pretty excited about this. Our orchard is also going to over the other side of the bridge aswell. I will put some photos of the block on when I get a chance.
The other thing that we did was pick up some rocks off the block as we have many and they are in the way when we drive over the block, we are collecting them in the trailer and then driving them down to the bottom of the block and making gabian walls across the channel into the dam to catch sediment from the water that is running down it and also it looks really nice. We were going to line the whole channel with rocks but we realised that we probably dont have that many to be doing this. It is coming along really nicely though.
This all happened saturday and sunday was soon upon us. We had a morning of working out house plans and remeasuring the rooms and changing a few things, but we have still pretty much stuck to the original plan that we want. I then took the kids to the "Focus on Franklin" fair which was excellent. We had lunch down on the huon river and watched a friend of ours row her way down to the finish line. Tao and I decided that we would give it a go next year. It looked like fun. We picked Jamahl up and went to the block again.
We took some soil samples from the bottom, middle and top of the block and also a water sample from the dam. I am going to get these tested this week, so it should be interesting what they find out. The water is getting micro tested for water quality and the soil is to find out what the soil condition is for growing. We again then picked up a pile of rocks and did some more of the gabian walls.
Friends of ours that live around the corner are looking after our trailer for us so we took that back and showed them our house plans, they are doing some of their own, so it was nice to get some feedback and discussion on ideas. After a couple of cold hours there, because the temperature was dropping we wandered home for dinner, buggered as per usual and went to bed.
That was the end of the day....
