An Inaugrial Event....

Saturday 2nd June 2008

Today was going to be a pretty momentous moment. The windmill is going up for good, about time we are saying considering that it has been laying on the ground for a few months now. I was getting pretty excited about it all. After making sure that everything was greased, primed and working well including attaching the pump correctly we were ready to put the whole thing into place.

In true tassie family form, Monte was around to help as we needed two people driving and one person directing the aim of the windmill. Rebecca came around as well to help us take photos and the kids played together and had fun as per usual.

While Monte and Jamahl were tinkering I was repainting the vane for the windmill as it was getting pretty faded and you could not see the writing.

The windmill is a Bryan Colac windmill and we bought it from a farmer in New Norfolk. Boy the farmers are going to have something to really say now that it is up and away.

Once all the ropes were attached to both cars it was now the nerve racking moment, the boys were in the cars and I was making sure that the legs were lining up and the there was enough tension in the ropes to stop it from falling over when it got to the feet. The gin pole is pretty amazing, I cannot believe that it takes the whole weight on the windmill.

It was pretty funny, at one stage earlier on in the day Jamahl was testing the gin pole and whether it was in the right position and managed the snap the rope clean in half, that was pretty scary, the wind mill proceeded to come crashing down but luckily not to the ground. It was then decided that the gin pole had to be moved a meter or two towards Montes car. After realigning the pole it was time to test it again. Everyone was in place and we were all pretty anxious to see everything go right, especially Jamahl as he had been planning this moment for a while. The attached movie is pretty cool.

This is one of the best moments so far, it was beautiful, and amazing. Just using two 4wd's and a gin pole, you would never have thought.

When everything went extremely well, we were all exstatic and jumping up and down and were pretty quick to pull out the beers and have a toast to the huge event. Well it was for us anyway.....

It was so awesome to see and nerve racking at the same time. We were pretty confident that the legs that were concreted in the ground were going to fit and they did. Thank you to Rebecca and Monte for your help, our LETS list is pretty even now I think.

We're gutted that we missed this and couldn't help out but we're looking forward to seeing the windmill action on Thursday!

I notice you've scared the wind away since it went up ;)
